7s, Kors, cashmere and a single coffee: Very hot gifts
We are imagining smiles on Christmas morning. Not just ordinary smiles, but smiles of surprise, smiles that say, “It’s perfect!” and, every once in a while, an “OMG!” You too? Then come shopping with us. We’ve got a handful of cool presents that aren’t a dime a dozen.
Do you know her jeans size? More specifically, her 7s size? Then we have the key to her heart: 7 for All Mankind Ellis Island jeans at Neiman Marcus, guaranteed to make her swoon with their faded wash and flared legs. It’s what all the chic kids are wearing. ($285, above left) One of the most versatile shapes of the season? The foldover clutch that is perfect as an evening bag yet has an option for a shoulder strap. Dooney & Bourke does theirs in embossed “python.” At Macy’s ($195, above right).
We’ve given digital frames as gifts before, loading them up with favorite photos before we wrapped them, and we have to say the reaction is always spectacular. Pottery Barn takes it one degree beyond with their personalized digital frame; its 512 mb holds up to 4,000 images, and you can monogram it with a name or initial (It was $259, now marked down to $180 - but hurry and order by Dec. 19). Look at this cute little toy watch! Only it’s a big-girl Plasteramic toy watch at Saks, made for days when you feel like doing cartwheels and grabbing all that’s young in life (was $195, now $117, above left). Here’s another version from Michael Kors, with clear stones sparkling around the bezel. At Neiman Marcus ($225, above right).
All the rest of her gloves will be consigned to the top shelf of the coat closet after she finds these in her stocking. Nordstrom’s long fingerless cashmere gloves combine warmth, elegance and practicality in any of nine colors. They’ll peek out from under any coat or sweater with a bit of urban style (was $48, now $36). He has a cubicle. She has an office. They love coffee, but the office coffee is, well, forgettable. Solve all their problems with the Keurig Special Edition coffee brewer, which brews a single cup at a time ($129 at Amazon.com, below left). Add the Keurig Caribou Coffee 18-pk ($10, Kohl’s), and their office mates will whine with envy. Mother’s rings and necklaces are sweet, but they all tend to look the same. So we’re doubly enchanted with Red Envelope mother’s birthstone necklaces, which are designed with a more contemporary aesthetic and fit up to five stones. ($130-$1,965, depending on silver/gold and stones, above right) The person who has everything does not have this. Ballard Designs’ Rosette indoor-outdoor clock is made in hand-cast aluminum in a bronze or black gold finish, and is made to echo the design of an original rosette woodcarving. Hang it in an art niche or on your patio; it’s good for both inside and out ($119).
