D.C. designer update: Michelle O was wearing Rodriguez

While we still don’t know which designer will be tapped for Michelle Obama’s inaugural day wardrobe, we now know a bit more about what she’s been wearing the last few days.

narciso-rodriguezAt the Lincoln Memorial performances, her camel coat with black lining and camel skirt, as well as the black silk beaded top and scarf, were by Narciso Rodriguez (left). He’s one of her favorites. His black and red dress she wore on election night got mixed reviews — although we loved it! No arguing over the suit yesterday —  pure elegance.

And those striking earrings? According to WWD, they are by Loree Rodkin, they cost $17,300 but they were on loan via Michelle’s favorite Chicago boutique, Ikram. The chandelier style earrings were white gold with black diamond centers, the Web site reported. On the train trip to Washington Saturday, she reportedly wore a purple Zero Maria Cornejo coat.

The fashion big guns now are betting on either Thakoon, Rodriquez or her friend, Maria Pinto for the inaugural garb.

Cheeky fashion maven Billy Norwich says insiders are betting that Obama will wear a full-length sleeveless sheath dress by Pinto. (They even go so far as to say it will be worn under a full-length white opera coat with three-quarter sleeves — which makes us think that all these fashion fortune-tellers may be starting to lose it.)

Don’t rule out Rodriquez, Lauren, Jason Wu, Thakoon (although we’re not betting on him), Isabel Toledo, even Michael Kors. And Norwich breathlessly notes that someone told someone that perhaps it was Diane von Furstenberg spotted heading toward the Obamas’ temporary quarters.

Isn’t all of this wild guessing and wild fashion fanaticism crazy? We  love it.

Also:

Celeb interior designer Michael Smith reportedly (according to WWD, again) will have only 4 and 1/2 hours to re-do the Obama’s private quarters tomorrow while they are out of the “house.” Someone told the Web site that he had ordered some items from Anthropologie.

If you really want the 24-7 on Mrs. Obama’s style, bookmark Mrs-O.org. We vote them most obsessed with Michelle’s style, with up to the minute blog posts about everything from all her fashion choices to her makeup choices for the inauguration (chic neutrals for day, such as ModelCo eyeshadow, and for the evening “deep smoky plum-lined” eyelids, possibly with Mineral Essence’s Merlot Shimmer, pictured above.)
