All aflutter over Kate Moss, NYC throws a Topshop party
We are remiss. It’s been a bit since we’ve blogged about blogs. We shall make up for it today, because we are so in the mood to hop from one to the next, soaking up the ambience, letting them tempt us, delighting in the ones Have you visited Racked? Right now it — and many New Yorkers — are being harassed by Topshop, which (ta-da!) finally opens in Soho tomorrow after partying tonight. Apparently the Topshop vehicle - sort of a pink ice-cream Oh, how we wish we were being harassed in this manner. When Racked isn’t blogging about Topshop and linking to photos of it in Glamour), it’s walking around at street level, wondering if Chanel is pulling an April Fools’ prank (right), watching the Derek Lam construction permits, and noticing things like the windows at Moschino or the Alice + Olivia sale in Midtown. We cannot even imagine how obsessed we’d be with this blog if we actually lived in the Big Retail Apple. Or how broke, for that matter.
While we’re talking about Topshop, let’s talk about Inside-Out, the Topshop blog. Tomorrow’s long-delayed and longer-awaited opening of the four-story, super-branded Kate Moss store (Glamour notes that Her Mossness is camped out on the second floor) has this blog all aflutter. They take note of Topshop mentions around the world and let us peek backstage (like this glimpse of the fabrics in the latest collection (above), which goes on sale worldwide tomorrow). And while it’s not the perfect time to be doing things like opening new stores (Bloomberg notes that Ann Taylor and The Gap are the latest to announce that they’re closing more locations), Topshop may be immune. They have 300 stores in the U.K. and are already talking about opening more here. If you can’t wait that long, visit the Kate Moss Spring Preview page (below); there’s a sneak peek of a few designs.
You’re going to love Diary of an E-Shopaholic. We do, and not just because she finds a lot of cute clothing, though that’s nice. What we love is her dedication to her self-appointed task of linking to every online boutique
We also think Ask Fashion Kitty works hard. Really, really hard.
People email her with questions like “I just bought these tiny bow headbands from Forever 21, what should I pair them with?” or “Where can I buy the coat I saw on Gossip Girl,” or “I love wearing saddle shoes with foldover anklets. Do you think this is ok to wear or do I look dorky?” and Fashion Kitty actually writes back. She doesn’t say “If you can’t match your own clothes you shouldn’t wear any,” like we
might. Instead, she makes deft suggestions about the headbands, finds the coat, and discourages the anklets, all with a visual eye and a kind word. (For example, she offered accessories - shoes and clutch - advice for the pink Betsey dress, above) We know, it’s hard to imagine a fashion advice site with no snark, but it’s the truth. Enjoy. (And take those damned leggings off.)
Here’s what California Style is doing for us this week: Giving us the goods on American Idol’s Voom wardrobes this season (above left) , finding us discounts on those Shopbop sandals we fell in love with yesterday, identifying the Vita Bangles Fergie wore at LAX last week, and telling us who is carrying JJ Winters suede fringe handbags (namely, Haylie Duff, Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens and that Hilton girl). We particularly perked up at the latter (above), because we think we have one just like it left over from the ’70s. If you don’t, there’s a 15 percent off coupon code (CASTYLE15) at Boutique to You. It’ll take the $385 pricetag down to the $325 neighborhood. Get the purple.
And Fashion Vice (”Guilty Pleasures for the Stylish Girl”), showing its good sense, is as startled as we are about popularity of the $2,000 distressed Balmain jeans. (Seriously, we could find some down at the thrift store that are in better shape for $5.) But Fashion Vice recovers quickly, oozing love for See by Chloe’s Punch Line handbags (above left), adoring Current/Elliot denim dresses (above right), considering jumpsuits, and writing about Net-a-Porter’s mid-season sale. All worthy pursuits, especially the latter. We’ll go do some more research on it, and get back to you with our findings. Advertisement |
