Roger Vivier’s spring collection is rockin’ Manhattan

We don’t need to extol the virtues of sensational shoes, but when it comes to the crème de la crème of fabulous footwear, the poshest of peeps turn to Roger Vivier. Bruno Frisoni, creative director at Roger Vivier, made a personal appearance last week at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City to present the spring/summer shoe and bag collection.

Oh, to be in NYC!

Roger Vivier was a true creative genius. He opened his first boutique in Paris in 1937 and designed the first-ever stiletto in 1954.  Vivier died in 1998 at 91, and the designing dynasty was passed to Bruno Frisoni in 2002. He’s kept the brand’s legacy thriving.

So how is the creative genius pumping (Get it? Pumping? Like pumps . . . shoes? OK, never mind, funnier in my head) up this season’s collection.

Sky-high stilettos (serious walking practice recommended) in an array of neon hues such as hot-pink and limelight yellow, jewel-encrusted buckles, black and white polka dot pumps covered in sequins like the super sexy Celia (pictured at top).

There are metallic gladiators (such as the Lemon Incest, above right), street skimming patent flats in Easter egg hues, architectural wedges (definitely not for the acrophobic) such as the red Itaca pair (above right), and exotic skins sandals in alligator and python (such as the flat version of Lemon Incest, below) that could make even Crocodile Dundee say crikey.  Especially after he takes a look at the not-so-economical prices — these killer kicks range from $500 to $2,000!  And even more for the haute couture creations, but those are “price upon request” only.

(The Vivier Web site is as fancy and fabulous as the shoes and bags, and a bit tricky to navigate. We’ve picked some of the shoes and bags we like — but you’ll need a high-speed connection and some bubble-clicking to see them all.) Check out the polka dot Papaillettes, below left, and the fab red Scoubidou, below right.

On a good note, you can find yourself a discounted pair on Bluefly.com

The handbags  –  an array of clutches, totes and shoulder bags — are just as hot.  Just like the shoes, the bags are made with patent leather, sequins, exotic skins and hard- shell wicker, in unique geometric patterns and shapes like the crazy cool Trytique clutch, below left, and the Hobo tote, below right.

Other hot handbags include the Demi, below, and the pink Micro Metro, below the Demi.

Frisoni, below, has been the toast of the town as Manhattan socialites raise their Rogers bruno-frisoni-rogervivier_comduring a week’s worth of shoe soirees. Monday there was a party hosted by Amanda Brooks at Roger Vivier’s Upper East Side boutique. The next day, a meet and greet at Bergdorf’s, then a dinner party honoring the honorable designer hosted by Vanessa von Bismarck. Hmm, my invite must have gotten lost in the mail (hate it when that happens).

So what’s up next for our creative cobbler? The fall collection, shoe fanatic friends. In the meantime, you can get your Viviers at Roger Vivier boutiques, Bergdorf’s and select Neiman Marcus stores.
