Mary Norton’s shop has heavenly bags, shoes
We totally agree with designer-to-the stars Mary Norton: “Some days only a fiercely beautiful pair of shoes Some of you may know Mary from her wildly successful handbag company, Moo Roo (named for her daughters Micah and Reilly), which she started in 1998 after From there, she went on to be named a rising star in 2004 by Fashion Group International, Inc. and the Accessories Council. In 2006 Mary re-launched her luxury accessory collection under her own name and opened two boutiques in her hometown of Charleston, S.C., and Melrose Place in Los Angeles.
Mary is the sole designer of her exquisite handbags and shoes, which are produced by family-owned businesses in Italy in a conscious effort to cultivate the artisan tradition. But if you’re not going to be in Charleston or L.A. any time soon, you can shop at Mary Norton online, which went live in September. We went gaga over her Exclusives line of bags that are truly one of a kind, such as the Jasmin burgundy printed patent leather clutch with Swarovski crystal ($695, above) and the stunning Babe Piccolo in amethyst painted iguana with a Jaipur crystal, amethyst and black diamond ornament ($1,495, below left).
Coming in November is Mary Norton’s first signed and numbered collection, the Lily handbag and Jane ballet flat. Mary collaborated with actress/journalist Lily Collins to design the set, and 20 percent of the proceeds will go to the Maple Counseling Center in Los Angeles. The handbag ($895) and shoe ($425) will be available for pre-order online beginning Nov. 1. Equally to die for are Mary Norton’s current collections, which take their inspiration from feathers (Ã la Marlene Dietrich), tassels (Ã la Josephine Baker), flowers and exotic jungle prints.
Gondola Rose features divine rose-trimmed bags and shoes in black, a Finally, in Birds of a Feather, we couldn’t wait to get our hands on the Ginny bag layered with hand-dyed ostrich feathers in amethyst, green, gray, and taupe ($895, right). |
