The Style Insider could not be more tired of winter. Our enthusiasm for dressing in layers has waned, and we are soooo tired of our coats. So we’re looking ahead on the calendar, trying to ignore that “comes in like a lion” thing, and shopping for dresses today. Pretty spring dresses. And even better, pretty spring dresses that don’t break the bank. (If you have pre-ordered a pair of those hysterical Balmain ripped jeans, this post is not for you.)
How are you doing on that Christmas list? We bet you’ve had the easy people filled in since October, and are still fretting over some of the more difficult ones. Here is a bundle of cool gifts to consider, all for She wants Chanel’s newest fragrance, Chance eau fraiche. We promise. In fact, she wants it even if she doesn’t yet know that it exists. With top notes of citrus and floral and lower woody tones as a base, Chance will make all her pulse points smile. ($82) At Macy’s (left). You’d like to dress him up a little, but he resists? Start slowly, with Calvin Klein’s casual field jacket in black or gray. The button-up jacket tosses a hint of military and a touch of casual Friday into the mix ($74, above left). We cannot imagine any words that wouldn’t take on an unexpected beauty in this Medallion Italian leather journal ($30, above right).
Lip stains have been around for a while, but they’re enjoying a resurgance in some of the most popular make-up lines, primarily because lips (and cheeks) really do absorb the stain, and the tint lasts longer. It eventually wears away, but not as quickly as lipstick. One of the early popular stains is Benetint by Benefit ($28). The rose-colored liquid in a bottle is a sheer tint for lips and cheeks. Benefit also has a lip balm stain ($20) that’s thicker, and a convenient Benetint Pocket Pal ($20, pictured) that has a double-wand approach with lip stain on one end and a thick clear gloss on the other.
