The Style Insider is thinking about prom night. Wondrous, magical prom night. We love thinking about prom because we don’t have to actually go to one. We have no angst about who might or might not ask us. We have no curfew. And we don’t have to worry about rain, or bad hair, or a pimple on The Day. No. All we have to do is shop for adorable dresses that you might want to wear. It is the best of all possible worlds. And today, we’re just looking for short dresses. We adore short (more…)
We are remiss. It’s been a bit since we’ve blogged about blogs. We shall make up for it today, because we are so in the mood to hop from one to the next, soaking up the ambience, letting them tempt us, delighting in the ones Have you visited Racked? Right now it — and many New Yorkers — are being harassed by Topshop, which (ta-da!) finally opens in Soho tomorrow after partying tonight. Apparently the Topshop vehicle - sort of a pink ice-cream Oh, how we wish we were being harassed in this manner. When Racked isn’t blogging about Topshop and linking to photos of it in Glamour), it’s walking around at street level, wondering if Chanel is pulling an April Fools’ prank (right), watching the Derek Lam construction permits, and noticing things like the windows at Moschino or the Alice + Olivia sale in Midtown. We cannot even (more…)
First, the critical info: Easter is April 12. If you still need to buy Easter dresses, it’s crunch time. The Style Insider sees two ways this can go. You can put your daughter(s) in the car, traipse from store to store, show them everything you want them to wear (at which they will roll their eyes), veto everything they want to wear (at which they will whine and moan), and then find a compromise no one is really happy about. Or you can shop online. Good decision.
Followers of The Style Insider know that we are over the top about Net-A-Porter, the online site that sells all manner of designer clothes, handbags, shoes and accessories. Their list of designers is exhaustive, whether American or European; it’s where you’ll find everything from Prada sunglasses to Herve Leger bandage dresses, from Alice + Olivia to Zac Posen. Their boutiques-within-the-site include Salon, Cutting Edge, Contemporary, Essentials, Loungewear and Vacation; each has scrumptious selections that are perfect for one mood or the other.
We know. You want to shoot us for suggesting that you buy a white coat in the winter, the very time of year when you’re most apt to get it dirty. We’re sorry. We are just the messengers, and bigger kids than us are documenting the trend: the New York Times On the Street showcases plenty of folks donning white, ivory and cream colored coats this season. In our never-ending quest to keep you current, The Style Insider went shopping for some pristine outerwear that will even outshine the snow. Please, do not even think about pulling out yet another of your old LBDs, and banish the thought of that awful Christmas sweater from a few years ago. In case you haven’t noticed, every celebrity worth her Prada pumps has been making the party rounds in sparkling, shimmering, bejeweled, crystal-encrusted and brightly beaded outfits. Designers’ runway offerings for the holiday season are shining like your new LED lights. So take a hint from Sarah Jessica Parker sporting a shimmering, gossamer-like blue Nina Ricci and Ashley Olsen in a long vest-like Missoni that sparkles in gold with multicolor crystals shining through. Did we hear right? You think you’re finished with warm-weather clothes? We beg to differ. You did not spend
