Yes, we posted an item a few days ago saying Ray-Ban’s Wayfarers are the coolest, celebrity-loved form of sunglasses. But — news flash – the Ray-Bans may be taking a back seat to another style. 

The new it eyewear? Very, very large oval sunglasses.

At New York’s fall fashion week last September, editors were everywhere in these John Lennon-inspired-then-supersized  round glasses. Yes, we admit it, they look a little weird. But don’t you remember when the red Ray-Bans seemed like a fashion faux-pas?

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have both been spotted wearing the oval look and you know that anything these elfish-trendsetters declare chic becomes the next big thing. (Oh, here is a cheaper version, above left, of the Chanel glasses they’re wearing.)  

But it’s not just the Olsen twins who are supporting this trend. Leighton Meester was spotted wearing a glamorous version of them — those YSL sunglasses are $250 at Neiman Marcus and Yves St. Laurent boutiques.
