Pad softly into Christmas with sublime slippers

  womens-spa-mule-slippers-landsend  fluffington-slippers-coldwater-creek

True story: We once knew a mother who made her children get dressed, have their hair brushed and even eat breakfast before they could see what Santa brought on Christmas morning. We like this family otherwise, but this made an impression that we have not been able to shake.

Thus, here is our detailed Christmas morning routine: We get coffee, and we put on slippers. Amen.

No matter your routine, slippers are essential on Christmas morning — plus, they make an excellent last-minute, I-have-no-idea-what-to-get gift.

Land’s End certainly knows how to keep your toes warm, seeing as how they are headquartered in Wisconsin or Greenland or somewhere. Their women’s spa mule slippers with bow are terry-cloth soft and come in seven colors, and the soles match the stitched grosgrain bow ($25, above left). Or let us pause for a moment to worship chenille, the uber-soft fabric of grandma’s bedspread and Coldwater Creek’s Fluffington slippers ($20.50, above right).

Here’s the kind of slipper you dive into and never come up for air: Juicy Couture’s plush slipper boot ($80, above) surrounds your foot with pink fake fur and ties it all up with pom-pons. At Nordstrom. Or for the same silhouette but a little less show, Bloomingdale’s Kate Spade Zzee knit bootie slipper does the job in gray cable knit and black shearling ($88, below).

We see your shearling, and we raise you with our UGG Australia slippers, all roomy and cozy with their affordable-luxury mission statement and their sheepskin lining. At Nordstrom ($85, above left). Or let’s go out of the box with Tommy Hilfiger - we think he went and cut up a bunch of his cute coats to make these winter coat slippers ($30, above right), but we’re OK with it because our feet would be so warm. At Macy’s.

Who knew? Who knew that Burberry made slippers, and secondly, who knew how cute they’d be? Well, Neiman Marcus, for one. And when the Burberry check cashmere travel slippers aren’t on your feet, they come with their own storage bag. But of course. ($250, above)

It’s unclear how Dasher or Dancer or the rest of the work crew feel about the rookie always getting all the attention, but we do think that Rudolph’s Reindeer head slipper socks ($10) would be a winner on Christmas Day. At  Joy of Socks. And for the weirdness in all of us, let’s consider Target’s Sock Monkey slippers. We don’t want to think too hard about why we like these so much, but we do. So we’re going with it ($15).
