Light up Hanukkah with an artful new menorah

harmony-menorah-bargain-judaica-com

If you’re getting ready to celebrate Hanukkah (which begins at sundown Dec. 21) you have probably already dusted off the family menorah you treasure. That doesn’t mean you can’t indulge in a new one — perhaps a modern style, or an artisanal creation or one that’s just whimsical. Who knows, perhaps that new menorah will become an heirloom itself in a few generations.

If you’re interested in the simplicity of a modern design, Bargain Judaica’s Harmony aluminum and glass menorah bends two whispers of metal into a beautiful statement ($47, top). And the menorah by Nambe at Bloomingdale’s balances its candles in a gentle valley above two silver cones ($160, above).

We’re enchanted with the beauty of this art glass menorah at Menorah.com, which depicts a page in the Bible featuring the traditional seven-branch menorah of the temple. We imagine the candlelight reflecting on the Bible verses, and it’s gorgeous ($109, above).

Want a menorah for the children’s room? We’re smitten with this Noah’s Ark menorah from Traditions Jewish Gifts, which has pairs of hand-painted animals gazing out at the steadfast candle flames balancing upon the waves ($100, below).

And we would gaze all year long at the Joseph Coat of Colors menorah, handmade with ribbons of fused art glass as though it were a dream ($190, below).

Candles in nickel cups sit atop Bargain Judaica’s etched glass menorah, which has a Star of David shimmering within a perfectly balanced arc of glass ($28, below left). Neiman Marcus takes the effect to its zenith, balancing a goldtone candle branch above a half-moon of Waterford crystal ($300, below right).

This would be what you call a niche product, and we absolutely dig it. Traditions Jewish Gifts combines the iconic ’60s VW bus - and all its lovewheelin-groovy-menorah-traditionsjewishgifts-com and flower-power messages - with their Wheeling Groovy menorah ($43, right).

The Dove of Peace menorah at Menorah.com combines the beauty of stained glass with the timeless message of peace, and a rainbow for promise ($184, below). The same delicate art-glass treatment graces the tree of life on the art glass and metal menorah at Zion Judaica ($190, below Dove of Peace).
