Seven great hostess gifts for under $100

If you are spending Thanksgiving away from home, a hostess gift is in order. No one’s expecting you to spend lavishly on a hostess gift these days. But your friend or loved one sweating it out in the kitchen to provide a delicious Thanksgiving meal deserves something thoughtful. Consider these seven ideas, and you can say thank you without breaking the bank:

1. Kenneth Jay Lane picture frame ($72, above left) - The gold frame will go perfectly with any hostess’ fall and holiday décor. Insert a picture from a past event or send her one from the festivities later.

2. Table Topics game cards ($25, above right) - This conversation game is a great way to steer clear of those traditional argument starters such as politics or religion. Plus it will be a fun way to learn more about the other guests, and your hostess will grateful.

3. A bottle of 2004 Escafeld Petit Verdot ($19.95, above left) and an etched globe spirits decanter ($50, above right) - A hostess’ worst fear is running out of food . . . or drink. Put her mind at ease with an Escafeld Petit Verdot that pairs wonderfully with turkey and stuffing. Plus the elegant etched globe spirits decanter from Wine Enthusiast will make the art of letting the wine breath a conversation starter.

4. A striking eclectic stone vase (on sale from $14 to $50, above) - If your hostess has modern tastes, one of these interesting grooved stoneware vases from Pottery Barn will fit right into her decor. The collection, from Pottery Barn, comes in gray, black, white or silver and you have seven vases to pick from.

5. A Thanksgiving picture book (starting at $12.95, above) - Turn your Thanksgiving photos into a book at Blurb.com. You can add captions about the pictures, write stories about your favorite Thanksgiving memory, and include recipes of the most popular dishes. While this gift will be a few weeks after the holiday, it will be a nice memento, and you might want to order an extra for yourself!

6. ‘Relax, Take a Bath’ Lush gift set ($19.95, above left) - Lush’s “Relax, Take a Bath” gift set has created its own cult following of shoppers. Women swear by the calming effects of the Dreamtime bath melt and the sweet-smelling violet bubble bath. A great reward for the hostess after her long day of hard work.

7.Turkey place card holders/decoration ($20, set of two, above right) - These adorable place card holders are perfect for the hostess who has everything. Williams-Sonoma constantly comes up with new must-have items for the kitchen; this one happens to be quite amusing.
