We refuse to devour our own: Six really rockin’ blogs

things-to-note-nantake-joy-55-secret-street

Blogs are carnivorous. Did you know that? We would like to do away with each other, usually, because we are all in the market for the same thing: You.

So when The Style Insider points you toward other blogs, it’s because we really really like them. We think they rock. We want to go to their apartment, have a cup of tea, check our look in the mirror and then go shopping, and we’re bringing you along, too. (We trust your opinion in the dressing room, you know?)

55-secret-street-logo55 Secret Street has it going on. She swoons for Michelle Obama’s look, as do we, and is busy deciding who should play her on Saturday Night Live (current pick: Aisha Tyler). She worships coconut oil for conditioning curly or kinky hair. And she understands that paper products are undeniably one of the secrets to a joyful life. This week she’s enamored with Nantaka Joy products, a line of stationery that pops with dots, flowers and texture in ways that make you want to write in them. We’re all over the Things to Note notebooks ($13.50, pictured at top) and the Stones Jute notes ($5 for 1, $16.50 for 6).

We totally have a crush on Coutorture, a hyperactive style blog that takes us on a whirl through fashion bloggers daily in Fashion in 50 Seconds. They watch everything, everywhere. For instance, who else has told you about Berlin Fashion Week recently? No one, that’s who, and because Coutorture did, we’re now panting over Sisi Wasabi’s collection (especially this shimmery copper number — above left – and this pretty ensemble, all slim and belted in tones of taupe, above right).

If there’s anything we love, it’s a blogger who gushes over handbags even more than we do. If that describes you too, then you’ll want to visit Bag Snob, whose blog has enough pockets and zippers to rival those supersize totes on Net-A-Porter. In the last few days, Bag Snob dishes on the Celine Blossom tote  (chunky hardware and perfect with jeans, $2,050),  tries to decide whether the Bottega Veneta canvas tote is worth the $960 it’s printed on (Let’s help out: No.),  and says that the Maia N spring 2009 collection (one of their bags pictured above) is enough to make her break her resolution to not buy any more handbags for a while. (At $7,400 and $5,000, we agree it’s worth significant thought.)

la-canadienne-mango-boots-shefindsSheFinds understands the danger in National Wear Red Day (aside from the fact that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women), and comes to the rescue with How To Wear Red So You Don’t Look Like A Cherry Tomato.  (Their suggestions: start small, wear it with black, and leave the red accessories and makeup at home if you’re wearing a red dress.)  The SheFinds staff also let us in on the one article of clothing they can’t live without this winter, ranging from La Canadienne boots ($335, right) to an Aqua boyfriend cardigan, ($68). (And now we want those boots. Dammit.)

Bellavita Style has declared war on our abs (which is fine with us; someone needs to) and added Yummie Tummie tanks to their list of garments everyone needs. Yummie Tummies are cool little tops that miraculously hold in your stomach while complementing the blouse, sweater or blazer you’re wearing over the top. You pick the style (there are 10) and the color (there are 10); prices range from $62 for a tank to $82 for a long-sleeved T-shirt (classic T-shirt, below). Oprah chose Yummie Tummies as one of her favorite things last summer, and People called it the perfect body shaper. We are so there.

vanessa-hudgens-in-lauren-moshi-i-heart-thatAs an end note, we are admiring I Heart That’s superior work ethic. There was Vanessa Hudgens in the LAX Airport wearing a cool Lauren Moshi Peace Girl tank ($139, right), and we get all the info practically before her plane lands in Japan. Taylor Swift does a bit of shopping in New York and we get the skinny on her cute Kate Spade Molly coat ($596). Eva Longoria buzzes around Beverly Hills in J Brand boyfriend jeans ($218), and we get the link. Well done, people. Well done.
