Spring brings light, sparkle and exquisite things for the home

pixie-vases-artfulhome_com

The sun has come out, and with it, our annual lusting for light and bright things to sprinkle around the house, reflecting the new season and our hopefully tasteful aesthetic. It’s a challenge, what with the recession and all, but we still love to look.

You’re going to hate us for what we’re about to do, because once you see the picture of Artful Home’s Pixie Vases, you’re going to want them, and you’re going to want them all. (Evil, evil Web site to show them all in one photograph, above.) They’re tiny, and they come in amethyst, daffodil, aqua, apricot, lime and ruby, and they’re $80 each. And still we yearn for more.

If you buy Sundance’s Point Reyes bed, you will, we guarantee, find yourself living in a beachfront cottage, leaving the windows open at night to hear the surf, and doing things with your days like writing in journals and sipping tea and walking along the sand looking for shells. Can’t you just tell by the looks of it? We thought so. ($1,195-$2,195, above)

Bring spring’s pale prettiness indoors by sprinkling these variegated leaf pillows around your living space — it’s green living at its easiest. Oak, apple, chestnut and evergreen palm leaves spread across 20″ squares of hand-loomed fabric. (At Horchow, $115-$200, above left)

We confess. When the seasons change, we want to change our dinnerware. We do. We want place settings that are evocative of time and place, on linens that express color and light. Today, that means we have a mad crush on Pottery Barn’s new Lisbon pattern, which practically glows in sun-splashed shades of lemon ($32-$48 for 4 pieces, $128 for 16 pieces, above right).

And doesn’t this go right along with the mood? With just a handful of colors and a few inspired brushstrokes, artist Lisa Ridgers has created a row of whitewashed Tuscan villas with terra cotta roofs under a golden sky. The offset lithograph print has a double white mat and a pine frame, finished in deep brown; total dimensions are 40″ by 23″ by 1.5″ (At Crate & Barrel, $249. above)

You have to envision what you want in life, and so we’re holding an image of Ballard Designs’ vented tilt umbrella. We see ourselves curled on a chaise with a book and a glass of iced tea, not moving for hours. These are 9′ across (the website also offers 11′) and come in 22 different colors and patterns. Paradise. ($359, below left)

Restoration Hardware’s wine barrel chandelier is made from reclaimed French oak wine barrels. Each is unique, of course, due to the differences in wood grain and occasional small cracks. Hanging above your dining table, it promises to infuse the evening with both light and warmth ($2,495, above right)

Please forgive us, but we just had a Cute Attack over this trio of feathered ducks at Williams-Sonoma. Made entirely by hand, they are fashioned with feathers and quizzical expressions; even the beaded eyes and painted beaks are done by hand. ($19.95 for three, above)

And to our new favorite category of items — Fun Ideas That Are Not At All Practical — we’re adding these custom pillowcases (above), upon which you can have your child’s artwork (or your own) custom-embroidered on Egyptian cotton. It’s pricey, however. They start at $795, so you’ll probably want to sleep on it. At Vivre.
